Kepler's Waltz

Take a musical stroll through the world of the novel, The Universe in 3/4 Time, to the accompaniment of "Kepler's Waltz". This piece was composed around the notes Mi-Fa-Mi (E-F-E), the interval ascribed to the Earth by the great scientist and mystical thinker, Johannes Kepler (1571-1630), as part of his system of planetary harmony. All will become clear when you read the book!

The following musicians were courageous early readers of The Universe in 3/4 Time and I am deeply grateful for their support and encouragement:

Waterloo Meditation

"Waterloo Meditation" is a musical walk through the landscape of the novel The Sage of Waterloo. The ancient farm of Hougoumont was a pivotal site during the Battle of Waterloo and has been restored to its pre-battle condition to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the conflict. It was the haunting atmosphere of the old, crumbling farm, however, that inspired the setting for the novel.

Below is a selection of pieces composed over the past few years. Please click on any cover to view the first page of the score. You will also find short audio clips. This is tonal music in the classical/romantic style, and my aim is for it to be enjoyable for both player and listener.

So if you're an amateur pianist willing to venture into brand new repertoire; or a concert artist searching for something a bit different to put on your program; or a teacher with an adventurous student...please: give my work a try! Performance indications are suggested in most places, but these are all approximate, and I hope you’ll take the liberty to experiment with your own interpretations.

Please feel free to contact this site with any feedback or performance ideas you might have, or for information on complete scores and further audio material.

Heartfelt thanks to Barbara Peterson Kieffer and Marcelo Braga for performing and promoting my work.
